My dream job

My dream job is being a Brazilian diplomat. I really like this idea of getting to know profoundly different countries around the world and dealing directly with world affairs. Diplomacy and international affairs in general is an interdisciplinary subject that requires you to have, at least, good notions in Politics, Economics, Sociology, Geography and History, what gives someone a broad vision about the humanity. It demands that you keep yourself up-to-date in the most important and controversial topics of the global agenda and act directly about it. And you would be responsible to be a defensor of your nation interests, but would be as well a bridge to someone else's culture.

There is many influent diplomats around the world that I admire or, at least, recognizes its importance. A few examples are Nicolló Machiavelli, in Italy, Alexis de Tocqueville, in France and Rui Barbosa, in Brazil and Eleanor Roosevelt, in United States. These people had powerful insights about the world that they lived in that went well beyond international affairs.

To become a diplomat in Brazil there is a long and hard path. You need to pass on one of the most difficult and competitive exams of the country to be admitted in the public office. You need to show you know really well all those subjects involved in diplomacy and they demand you to have an excellent level of English and Spanish and at least a good level of French. After that, you start to study at the Rio Branco Institute in Brasilia, the Brazilian capital, for two years, already being payed a great salary. Then, you start to work and to slowly climb up the career ladder.
